A Note From Our Chief Academic Officer

Our students thrive when families and schools work together. As parent-teacher conferences approach, I encourage you to participate in these important conversations. Conferences are an opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress, ask questions, and work with teachers to identify the support your child needs to succeed.

Regular attendance and arriving on time also play an important role in student success. Being at school every day, ready to learn, helps students build strong habits, stay connected to their classmates, and make the most of instruction. Thank you for your help in making sure our students are at school and ready to learn.

You are an essential partner in your child’s education. Your involvement, communication, and encouragement make a difference. Thank you for trusting us with your student and for partnering with us to help every student learn, grow, and thrive.

In Partnership,

Dr. Alicia Miguel

Chief Academic Officer

Taking Care of School Technology 💻

As we begin a new school year, please remind your student about the importance of taking care of their school-issued technology. Laptops, iPads, and other devices are important tools that support learning, completing assignments, and participating in classroom activities and testing.

Encouraging students to handle their devices carefully, keep them in a safe place, and follow school guidelines for technology use helps keep devices working properly throughout the school year.

i-Ready Assessment 📝

Some students may have recently completed an i-Ready assessment in Reading and/or Math. These assessments help teachers understand student progress, identify strengths, and determine areas where additional support or practice may be helpful.

For students who participated, teachers will review the results with families during parent-teacher conferences and discuss progress, areas for growth, and ways to support continued learning throughout the school year.

If you would like additional support for you student, check out some resources on our website!

Hispanic Heritage Month

Folklorico Dance Group

Guadalupe Centers Elementary’s Folklórico dance group proudly embraces and celebrates Mexican culture and traditions through the art of dance.

Throughout the beginning of the school year, the group has had the opportunity to perform at exciting events, including at KC Current, Fiesta Hispana, and Sporting Kansas City events. These performances allow our students to represent GCCS with pride, showcase their talent, and connect with the community through cultural expression.

Folklórico is more than just dance; it is a way for students to stay connected to their roots and honor the traditions passed down through generations. Through every performance, our students help keep these traditions alive while sharing the importance of cultural pride, heritage, and community with everyone who watches.

Investing in Our Students’ Futures

Each year during Hispanic Heritage Month, Guadalupe Centers High School partners with the Hispanic Development Fund (HDF) for an annual fundraiser supporting student scholarships. Over the past 12 years,

GCHS has raised $386,270, providing scholarships to 270 GCHS/HDF Scholars and helping students pursue their educational goals.
