A Strong Start to the Year at GCMS.

Thank you for joining us for Parent-Teacher Conferences and for supporting your child through the first trimester of learning. Your presence and partnership are invaluable. They help us ensure every Aztec feels seen, supported, and challenged to grow in our nurturing and stimulating learning environment.

As we move into Trimester 2, our unwavering commitment to your child's growth remains unchanged. We aim for steady attendance, positive habits, and continued progress toward mastery of grade-level standards. Teachers are building on the momentum from Trimester 1, using what we’ve learned about each student to provide more targeted support and enrichment.

We also want to take a moment to celebrate the achievements of our fall athletic teams. Their dedication and hard work have not only brought pride to GCMS but also inspired our entire school community. We also want to acknowledge our staff for their unwavering commitment to our students’ success, both in the classroom and on the field. Their tireless efforts create opportunities for our students to belong, empower, and achieve together.

Attendance Policy 📅

Actions Taken:

Automated text (in English and Spanish) letting parents know the student is absent and to please call.  Include that students will be withdrawn once students reach 10 total absences. 

Texts will be tracked in the Infinite Campus Contact Log.

Actions Taken:

The Attendance clerk/secretary calls to find out if there are extenuating circumstances to schedule an in-person or over the phone/Zoom meeting with a FACE coordinator or Social Worker to conduct the Listening Interview. 

If needed, the Social Worker will schedule a meeting to create a plan of support to improve attendance. 

A Dated Letter of Concern will be sent via IC, reminding parents of the policy and letting them know that students will be dropped if they reach 10 absences.

Actions Taken:

When a student reaches 8 absences, the FACE coordinator or Social Worker will give the parent a courtesy call to alert them that students will be withdrawn from school if they reach the 10 absences in a semester. Offer additional support.

Students will be withdrawn after 10 cumulative days unless extenuating circumstances have been communicated to the school. After a student is withdrawn, they will have 5 days for records to be requested. If records are not requested, the school may need to make a report.

A withdrawal letter will be sent to parents via certified mail and uploaded in Infinite Campus.

Students who are dismissed/unenrolled during the final semester of the academic school year will lose their enrollment spot for the following school year.

*For High School Students: The student will not receive credit for any courses in which  they have more than 10 absences in a semester or less than 90% total attendance

Parents may appeal the decision if they have new documentation that may be relevant in reversing this decision. (Appeal Form)

Get ready for Hallow-Read, our exciting reading challenge from October 29 to November 2! Students are encouraged to dive into spooky stories, favorite books, or anything that sparks their imagination. Let’s celebrate reading and have some fun this Halloween week!

Padres Comprometidos! 
We invite all parents to join our Padres Comprometidos sessions on November 11th, 18th and December 2nd, 9th! These sessions are a wonderful opportunity to get involved in our community and, most importantly, in your child’s education. Together, we’ll learn, connect, and strengthen the partnership between home and school to help every student succeed.

Our PTO brings together parents, teachers, and staff to support our students and school community. We organize events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities that enrich student learning and strengthen school spirit. Everyone is welcome to join and make a positive impact at GCMS!

We’re excited to share that all students who have been, or will be, selected as Student of the Month this school year will receive a T-shirt to celebrate their achievement!

Latin Artist T-Shirt Day!
We loved seeing our students celebrate the incredible talent of Latin artists! Students wore T-shirts honoring their favorite Latin musicians, artists, and cultural icons. It was inspiring to see so much creativity and pride on campus!

Jersey Day! 
Our students showed their team spirit by wearing their favorite jerseys! From school teams to professional favorites, it was amazing to see so much pride and energy around campus. 

Vaquera Day! 
Our students embraced the spirit of Vaquera Day, showing off their western-inspired outfits with boots and hats. It was so much fun seeing everyone celebrate this unique and vibrant tradition! 

Bandera Day! 
Students proudly celebrated Bandera Day by showing their love for their heritage and culture! From colorful outfits to waving flags, it was wonderful to see so much pride and joy.

October is National Principal’s Month, a time to celebrate the incredible leadership, dedication, and support that principals provide every day. At Guadalupe Centers Middle School, we are grateful for our principal’s guidance in helping our students and staff thrive. Thank you for everything you do to make our school a wonderful place to learn and grow!

Our students enjoyed delicious paletas sold by GCHS during lunch! All proceeds go to Cambio Para Cambio. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a difference in our school community!

In Mr. Turner’s class, students have been learning the value of teamwork! By working in groups, they are developing collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. It’s exciting to see them supporting one another and learning how to achieve goals together.

Big news! Congratulations to Ms. Valencia for receiving a grant from First Book and The Walt Disney Company! This grant will provide brand-new books for our students—helping foster a love for reading, imagination, and learning.

Huge congratulations to Mrs. Lindsey! She received a $5,000 grant for her STEM Club to get amazing new supplies and tools! Check out these incredible STEM Club students in the picture below—ready to create, explore, and innovate like never before!

Green Dot Training! 
Our students participated in Green Dot training, a program that empowers them to be leaders in creating a safe and supportive school community. Through engaging activities and discussions, they learned how to recognize and prevent bullying, harassment, and violence by taking positive action. We’re so proud of our students for stepping up to make a difference and helping build a culture of respect and kindness!

Mrs. Schiffelbein’s Class Explores Video Games! 
Students in Mrs. Schiffelbein’s class took learning to the next level by interviewing teachers about their thoughts on video games! They asked great questions about how video games affect our brains, the benefits and challenges of gaming, and which games teachers enjoyed when they were younger.

We remind all students to practice safe habits on and around the bus, including staying seated, listening to the driver, and using the crosswalks. Safety is everyone’s responsibility—let’s make every bus ride a safe ride!

Students in Ms. Aigaer’s class are diving into new vocabulary with excitement and curiosity! 

Noche Cultural Was a Success! 
Our community came together for a fantastic Noche Cultural filled with fun, food, and connection! Students and families enjoyed delicious food tastings, while STUCO sold snacks. The evening wrapped up with a cozy movie night, creating wonderful memories for everyone. It was inspiring to see our community celebrate culture, friendship, and school spirit all in one amazing event!

Exploring the Microscopic World
Last week, our 6th graders had an exciting time in science class using microscopes to examine different specimens up close! They were amazed to see the tiny details that can’t be seen with the naked eye. 
Hands-on learning at its best — sparking curiosity, discovery, and a love for science! 

Celebrating Our ELD Graduates! 
We had such a wonderful time celebrating our students who graduated from the ELD program! Families joined in to honor their hard work and accomplishments. Students proudly received their graduation certificates and enjoyed some delicious cake with friends and family.

Pumpkin Painting Fun in Mrs. Wilkins’ Classroom! 
Our students got to show off their creativity this week with a pumpkin painting activity — and wow, did they deliver! From spooky to silly to sweet, each pumpkin is as unique as its artist. 

Something Exciting Is Coming! 
Our amazing STUCO leaders and STEM Club students have been hard at work putting together a special surprise for all our students this week on October 30! 

WOW! Look at this stunning Día de los Muertos altar STUCO created!  Students can add pictures of their loved ones who have passed away to honor their memory. It came out absolutely beautiful!

Ms. Reyes goes above and beyond every day! She’s amazing at building strong connections with our middle school students and creating a positive, supportive environment. We’re so grateful for her dedication and the joy she brings to our school!

Spooky Celebrations at School! 
Our students had a blast showing off their creative Halloween costumes today, filling the halls with festive spirit and excitement! Meanwhile, our hardworking staff were treated to a special Halloween treat cart as a little extra fun and appreciation. We’re looking forward to seeing all our families for the second day of Parent-Teacher Conferences—let’s keep the celebration and learning going! 

This year’s Parent-Teacher Conferences were truly special!

Families had the chance to connect with teachers, get all their questions answered, and feel reassured about their child’s progress. We were honored to host author Pedro Martín, had 30 bags at Mesa Azteca, and celebrated our Book Fair, giving students and families the opportunity to explore new books. Our incredible PTO leaders were also busy connecting with families and recruiting new members for our growing “Pueblo Azteca” community. Thank you to everyone who made these conferences so welcoming and meaningful!

Celebrating Our Amazing Readers!

This month, a special group of students were recognized for their outstanding reading skills in class! Chosen by their English teachers for their dedication, effort, and love of reading, each student received $20 to spend at the Book Fair.

It was wonderful to see their excitement as they picked out books to enjoy and take home. Congratulations to all our amazing readers—you make GCMS proud!

These amazing Aztecs have shown outstanding character, leadership, and school spirit throughout October. They lead by example—showing kindness to their peers, putting forth their best effort in class, and representing the very best of our GCMS community.

🏐 Aztec Volleyball Shines!

Our Guadalupe Centers Middle School girls’ volleyball team has been doing an amazing job on the court! Their hard work, teamwork, and dedication are paying off, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way they represent our school. Way to go, Lady Aztecs—keep up the great energy and strong spirit this season!

After an incredible game against Frontier, our volleyball team fought hard and came out on top!  Their teamwork, dedication, and Aztec pride have truly paid off — we couldn’t be prouder!

Cross Country Update 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Our Cross Country team continues to shine this season! The athletes have been showing incredible dedication during practices and giving their best effort at each meet. Big shout out to them for running their first 2 mile run with an average pace of 6:45 per mile. Their hard work, teamwork, and determination are truly paying off. Way to go, team! Keep up the great work and let’s continue cheering them on throughout the season! 

Guadalupe Centers Middle School Cross Country – First Year, Big Win! 

Our girls’ team finished first place to end their inaugural cross country season! What an incredible way to kick off our program and showcase the hard work and dedication of these amazing athletes.

"It's been a great season with a lot of lessons, sweats and hard work. All of the kids did outstanding work since day one, pushing themselves to their limits and showing up no matter how tired or sore they were. They were a small team who bonded like a family. Our Aztec soccer team is having an outstanding season, showing off their skill, hustle, and teamwork in every match. Their chemistry on the field and determination to win have made for some exciting games and impressive goals. With strong defense, smart plays, and plenty of heart, the Aztecs are proving they’re a force to be reckoned with this year. Keep supporting our team as they continue to dominate the field and make us proud!

Our Aztec soccer team had an incredible season, finishing 3rd place in the league! From intense practices to thrilling matches, these student-athletes showed dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship every step of the way.

Throughout the season, our players faced tough competition but never gave up, supporting one another on and off the field. Their hard work paid off, and the energy, determination, and pride they brought to every game made our school community cheer louder than ever.

Aztec Girls Visit UMKC!

Over the weekend, our Middle School Aztec girls had an amazing experience visiting UMKC! They met the UMKC women’s soccer players, participated in fun activities, and learned more about teamwork and leadership. It was an inspiring and exciting day full of smiles, encouragement, and Aztec pride!

Students vs. Staff Volleyball Game! 
We had such a great time at our Students vs. Staff volleyball game! The energy, teamwork, and school spirit were amazing all around. 

Our students have so many ways to get involved and explore their interests! From the Fishing Club and Walk & Talk group to Cooking Club, Yearbook Club, Book Club, and more, there’s something for everyone. Clubs are a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, and have fun while celebrating creativity and teamwork.
